More Crap Remakes Than Hollywood!
(...but mostly these remakes are quite good...)
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the front page, here comes the newsbeast with a mouthfull of slippery oil to coat your remake desires with.
Lovejoy The Remake
Down at Retro Remakes HQ they're been having a clear out of some of the News backlog, so come get some, £10 each or two for a rolo...
Want some droids in 3D? Paradroidz has been on the list a while, but it's got a flash new homepage so we thought we'd stick it out there for the Paradroid fans. It's got a bunch of new models and is looking sweeeeeet.
Fancy a nibble? Ouroboros is snake done with a nifty 3D slant in Darkbasic Pro and was one of the top entries in a recent Game Creators competition (recent in 2004 anyway). The website also contains a tribute to the Breath of Fire series of Capcom games.
Even older than Snake is Castle Adventure, a 1984 text based adventure. In a castle. The Ronseal of the remakes world!
Brian Postma's website includes a variety of old games done in a basic 3D-o-vision, including Pacman, Space Invaders, Amidar and Combat , among others. Get it while the bandwidth holds up.
It's manga, and despite it's name, it's nothing to do with sex / school girls / sex-crazed-demonic-octopi... Magical Feeling 2 sounds like a japlish pr0n, but unfortunately it's a rather nice Puyo Puyo remake . If you can figure out where lots of links named '???????' take you, check it out.
And finally, buy any of the above and get an Electrobat free! It doesn't fly about at night zapping cats for fun, but it does play a weird circular pong thing. Just try it and all will become clear...
Hey Baby, Fancy A Jump?
Fresh from my woven pouch of news comes a remake of Jumpman from Raptisoft called Hap Hazard. Yes, those crazy fellows who brought you the excellent Hamsterball have turned their hands to an old classic and dragged it by the lapels into the 21st century. Its a play in the browser lark, so just nip on over to their site and play away.
More Plumbing Mario
Lets have another Mario game. Go on, it give Nintendo's legal department some exercise. Super Mario 2.5D entails our intrepid plumber being plunged into a world of extruded sprites and 3d views. An interesting take on the Mario concept indeed. I await Mario 1.5D with much drooly chinned anticipation.
Big Ducks and Bigger Guns
In the land of the updates, the one eyed duck is king. Or at least, it wasn't one eyed until we shot it with a BFG. The eternal classic entertainment of Duck Doom has received an update to become Duck Doom Deluxe. That'll give our very own DrDerekDoctors a run for his money in the initial stakes! For those who haven't had the pleasure previously - its Duck Hunt with a flavour of Doom. The mind truly boggles.
Shock to the System
Fanboys, please form an orderly queue for a remake of System Shock in the Doom3 engine. Now, now. Calm down please, its still a work in progress but we just had to share, because we love you so much. You can find all the goodness and a few piccys to moisten your doglike noses of this remake at Citadel.
Kiss My Ass & Call Me Clive
Some of the folks over at Sinclair Heaven and the ultimate speccy archive World Of Spectrum have been hard at work putting together a rather nice read in the shape of the wonderfully named ZXShed fanzine. Its in PDF format, so Firefox users without the "save as" option should definitely right click it for fear of FF throwing a wobbly. Its a great little read. Enjoy.
MS is Microsoft, Surely?
Finally, after 2 years of waiting MinionSoft is back and ready to rumble !! Regular visitors won't be really shocked by the new layout... However they've got a least 4 good reasons to rush to the new site.
Three of them lie in the Arcade section of the site: Frogger, Moon Patrol and Missile Command have been given the remake treatment by the Master Of The Impossible himself! And don't call me shirley...
More Willy Than You Can Shake a... (stop! -Ed)
I totally blame Smila for this next remake, whilst not a true remake as such, Smila has combined Jet Set Willy with The Little Computer People and created something small but really rather pleasing. A Day in The Life is available from MerseyRemakes and all good record stores.
Elvis Works At MacDonalds
Clowns have always freaked me out, probably due to foolishly watching IT at an early age. Anyways, that ghey McDonald's clown freak sprung to mind when Jeremy Beadle (he has a gammy hand) notified me that his good friend Magnus Christensen has remade the Intellivision version of BurgerTime! Wooooo, Chris (can I call you Chris?) did this using nothing more than fat, rice and GM. Features 50 levels and an internet enabled 2-player game!
Those Durty Japs Again
I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so! Those crazy Japanese fools, always coming up with addictive and scantily dressed female powered games. Here's a really awesome remake of Gals Panic (which was a remake of Qix) called Gal Pani X. Not strictly a remake but a nice addition to the fun series, me wuv dis very muchly :)
Decent Space Invaders Shocker
Elliott Productions are chuffed as nuts to present a remake of Space Invaders called "Invasion Force Turbo". With a name like this I'm sure bonafide goodness is within our very clammy grasps. Smooth as a baby's bottom graphics, addictive and fun gameplay, and frenetic action!
Retro On The Move
Mobile remakes are on the rise! Those of you with access to a GBA have plenty of retrogaming-goodness to keep you on the move over the winter. Get of load of these...
City Connection (City Connection),
Chip`s Challenge (Chip`s Challenge),
Jumping Jim (Jumping Jack),
Wonderboy (Wonderboy),
1942 Advance (1942),
Picross Advance (Picross, Mario style),
Megaman Picross (Picross, Megaman style),
Wallbreaker (Breakout),
Arkanoid Advance (Arkanoid),
Tris Fighter Advance (Tetris),
Androides (Lode Runner)
And so ends the news. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it remakes monkeys ;)
